Academic Programs

The Department of History at CSUF prepares students to engage their local communities and the globally integrated world through challenging and exciting coursework that emphasizes:  critical writing, applied research, and effective oral communication skills. Students in the Undergraduate (major or minor), Graduate M.A. and Pre-Credential programs will learn how to approach the study of history as evidence-based exploration, develop comparative perspectives and approaches, write, edit and revise academic work, engage new technology towards forming and responding to humanities-based questions, and work collaboratively to explore historical problem spaces.

Students in the Department of History also have the unique opportunity to gain transferable skills in public history, writing and editing and digital history by engaging scholarly initiatives like, the Lawrence de Graaf Center for Oral and Public History, the award-winning Welebaethan Student History Journal, and the Digital History Lab.
