Academic Programs
The Department of History at CSUF prepares students to engage their local communities and the globally integrated world through challenging and exciting coursework that emphasizes: critical writing, applied research, and effective oral communication skills. Students in the History programs will learn how to approach the study of history as evidence-based exploration, develop comparative perspectives and approaches, write, edit and revise academic work, engage new technology towards forming and responding to humanities-based questions, and work collaboratively to explore historical problem spaces.
Undergraduate Major & Minor
As a history student you think, create, and act globally. The department fosters an engaged community of student learners who are interested in becoming tomorrow’s innovators and community leaders. Work with outstanding and diverse faculty who will help you fashion an education for your future career needs and interests.
Graduate M.A. Program
The Master of Arts degree in History is designed to provide a course of study and useful skills for those whose interests lie in a wide range of career opportunities and personal development. Our program also offers the basic requirements for those who intend to pursue a doctoral degree upon completion of their study. We offer a general degree, as well as concentrations in Public History and Chicanx Studies.
Pre-Credential Track
Are you considering a career in teaching? If so we encourage our students to meet with our Pre-Credential adviser to get and stay "on track" toward graduation.
Internships
An internship provides an invaluable learning experience, an opportunity to explore a potential career field, a chance to learn and teach history beyond the classroom, and a vehicle for gaining hands-on experience that will enhance any resume, graduate school application, or law school application, regardless of the nature of the internship itself.
Student Organizations
The Department of History is home to Phi Alpha Theta (the History Honor Society), Cultural and Public History Association, and, of course, The Welebaethan.
